Schule für afrikanische, kubanische und indische Rhythmik und Perkussion
Afrocuban Videos Clips (Youtube)
We recommend that you carefully study appropriate music videos that showcase typical
aspects of a genre, such as techniques, feel and of course the joy and power of
performances. This can really help and guide you when learning an instrument. Pay
close attention to the correct hand positions, as these are as important to percussionists
as the actual mastering of rhythms!
Playing the congas is a very physical activity. If you want to survive a salsa concert
lasting several hours (and longer for dance nights!) and to be able to still play
accurately in the final encore, then you will realize how important it is to develop
a good technique. The modern conga technique of the floating hand (pescadito)
and its sparse movements and shortened paths has developed considerably since the
days of Tata Güínes with Changuito and is further changing in the hands of Giovanni
Hidalgo, Richie Flores and many others.
The video clips are divided into different categories and there are brief captions
for each video clip about the musicians, places and their work. The videos mainly
feature conga playing in Cuba, pop, jazz and salsa (Click on the pictures or the
titles to get to the video section).
